Kirchner champions improvement of Mexico-Venezuela relations
Argentinean President Néstor Kirchner recommended Monday in Mexico to
improve Mexico-Venezuela relations, at their lowest level since the
respective ambassadors were recalled in 2005.
Bilateral relations got strained under the government of Conservative
President Vicente Fox, the antecessor of Mexican President Felipe
Calderón, who exchanged tough criticism and rough terms with Venezuelan
President Hugo Chávez.
Kirchner said that Mercosur, a trade bloc composed of Argentina,
Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, with Venezuela applying for full
membership, would like Mexico to join it, Reuters reported.
"I have no doubt that the Venezuelan government also is fully in
agreement with Mexico's inclusion. Argentina advocates deepening and
natural improvement of Mexico-Venezuela relations," said Kirchner
during a joint press conference with the participation of Calderón.
