Civil Defense an Achievement of the Revolution

The Cuban people are proud of their civil defense system which has
saved thousands of lives and large amounts of material losses over the
years, said Ramon Pardo Guerra, Chief of Staff of the National Civil
Defense on Tuesday.

Pardo Guerra spoke during a ceremony for the 45th anniversary of the
civil defense network.

He noted that the reach of Cuba’s civil defense has gone beyond its
borders assisting other nations to also reduce the affects of
disasters. Several governments and foreign institutions have requested
Cuban cooperation in this field, he noted.

Born out of a need to protect the population and the economy from enemy
attacks, Cuba’s Civil Defense confirms the humanistic nature and
political will of the Cuban Revolution, said Pardo Guerra.

Several founding members received certificates in the ceremony also
attended by Alvaro Lopez Miera, vice minister of Defense, other
high-ranking officers, local civil defense authorities and
representatives of several institutions linked to the civil defense
system.
