Colombian Army Major Linked to Drug Trade
Bogota, Aug 9 (Prensa Latina) Colombian Army Maj. Carlos Alberto Gil
Londono was arrested by the Attorney General's Office for involvement
in the military drug-trafficking scandal, it was announced Thursday.
Gil is believed to be responsible for the transportation of an armed
group to free a brother of a Valle del Cauca drug cartel chief, who was
in Combita Prison in Boyaca.
Local TV revealed Gil turned himself in last night and a warrant for
conspiracy to commit a crime was officially given.
Gil is viewed by the prosecutor as an important link in the contacts of
the drug-trafficking gang.
Ret. Capt. Manuel Pinzon has already been tied to the process and was
arrested in this capital, and warrants have been issued for another
three officers.
The investigations began in May, but the case became public two weeks
ago when it was revealed that organized drug crime was recruiting
active and retired military.
