Mexican Governor Grateful for Cuban Supply of Medical Equipment
Havana, August 13 (acn) A Mexican governor, Lazaro Cardenas Batel,
thanked Cuba's Health Ministry this Friday for supplying equipment for
five ophthalmologic centers in the department of Michoacan.
With the aid of Cuba, surgery rooms in these centers are perfectly
equipped and a total of 855 eye surgeries have been performed there,
commented Cardenas Batel. So far the state run program to improve
visual health has operated on 3,733 people so far.
Meanwhile, the national program for cataract surgery "Volver a ver"
(Seeing Again) was officially inaugurated by President Felipe Calderon
this Thursday in the Miguel Silva Hospital of Morelia, the capital of
the province, as reported by Prensa Latina News Agency.
Calderon recalled the fact that prior to this, many low-income Mexicans
were forced to either get eye surgeries out of the country or rely on
charitable programs sponsored by foreign countries.
"We want even development for the whole country and full access to
medical services for every Mexican, who all deserve healthy and decent
lives," declared the Mexican head of state, who promised to cure 95 per
cent of all people with eye problems.
