Dom Republic Limits Ethanol

Caracas, Aug 13 (Prensa Latina) The Dominican Republic will only
produce the amount of ethanol necessary to replace gas and oil
contaminants and so avoid affecting food production, Dominican Foreign
Affairs Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso assured on Monday.

"We have taken marginalized land to produce only up to 10 percent of
gasoline to decrease the quantity of substances sent to the
atmosphere," Troncoso told Panorama daily.

At the recent PETROCARIBE Summit in Caracas, Dominican President Leonel
Fernandez announced part of the sugar industry would be dedicated to
the production of ethanol.

Troncoso also said that the Dominican Republic is ready to start using
the Venezuelan oil quota of between 50,000 barrels a day.
