Cuban Dairies Save the Country $4.6 Million US

Camagüey, Aug 16 (acn) The increase in milk production in the central 
province of Camaguey has saved the country more than $4 million US this 
year in terms of powdered milk imports.

Milk produced in Camaguey has nearly reached consumer demands in the 
provinces of Holguin, Granma and Ciego de Avila, resulting in a savings 
of $4.6 million US.

Some 50,000 liters of milk are daily transported to these provinces in 
refrigerated trucks. Milk is distributed to children under seven years 
of age, people with special diets, hospitals and schools.

By the end of the year, 19 million liters of milk are expected to be 
produced in the central province amounting to a savings of some $9.9 
million US.

Camaguey's requires 140,000 liters of milk for its daily distribution, 
while dairies produce more than 300,000 litters a day, part of which is 
also used for the production of different types of cheese.
