EDITORIAL
Immortal is the spirit of National Day!
After so many sacrifices and undaunted uprisings, the aspiration for
national independence came true in the forest of yellow starred red
flags during the August Revolution and the Democratic Republic of
Vietnam was established. Its foundation marked a resounding and
unforgettable event both nationally and globally.
On September 2, 1945, in the centre of the newly liberated capital of
Hanoi, President Ho Chi Minh declared to the world that “All men are
created equal. They are endowed by their Creator with certain
inalienable rights, among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of
Happiness"…A people who have courageously opposed French domination for
more than eighty years, a people who have fought side by side with the
Allies against the Fascists during these last years, such a people must
be free and independent. …Vietnam has the right to be a free and
independent country and in fact it is so already. The entire Vietnamese
people are determined to mobilise all their physical and mental
strength, to sacrifice their lives and property in order to safeguard
their independence and liberty.”
The declaration was the creation of the spirit and will of Vietnam. It
is a unique statement and proclamation sent to future generations of
Vietnamese.
The glorious victory of the August Revolution, which made the French
colonists retreat, the Japanese fascists capitulate and Emperor Bao
Dai abdicate, helped Vietnamese people restore their rights as masters
of their country. That glory belongs to the entire people, the
Communist Party of Vietnam and to great President Ho Chi Minh. History
has always recorded that fact.
The establishment of the new regime promoted the potential strength of
the thousand-year old nation and paved the way for the development of
new values. The successful combination of national strength with the
strength of the era has helped Vietnam achieve a new status and new
power to overcome difficulties and challenges, thus creating great
victories in the struggles against foreign aggressors and firmly
advancing to socialism.
By following the flag of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought and
holding strong beliefs enlightened by proud historical tradition, the
Vietnamese people will rapidly reach the target of getting out of
underdevelopment and move forward on the path of renovation under the
leadership of the Party.
The entire nation of Vietnam is determined to devote all its spirit and
forces to preserving national independence and implement the noble goal
of “a prosperous people, a strong country and an equitable, democratic
and civilised society.”
Long live the spirit of National Day, 2 September2!
