Fidel Castro Sends Letter to Chavez

Havana, Sept 3 (acn) On Saturday’s airing of the popular Venezuelan TV
show "Alo Presidente," President Hugo Chavez read a letter sent by his
Cuban counterpart, Fidel Castro.

Chavez, who also received the recently published book "Dialogue of
Civilizations", thanked Castro for his emotional letter and expressed
his admiration for the leader of the Cuban revolution on behalf of the
Venezuelan people, reports ABN news agency.

During the TV program, the Venezuelan President underlined the validity
of the environmental and humanist thought of Fidel Castro, quoting an
abstract of the book that includes two speeches and a prologue written
by the Cuban leader.

Chavez recalled Fidel Castro's words at the Earth Summit held in 1992,
when he alerted of the progressive and rapid deterioration of natural
living conditions around the world.

"If those conditions keep on deteriorating, humankind might vanish off
the face of the planet," said the Venezuelan head of state.

Since Fidel Castro transferred power to Vice President Raul Castro on
July 31, 2006, he has devoted himself to writing reflections and
articles on highly topical subjects, such as global warming and the
extinction of the human species.
