Havana to Host International Contemporary Cinema Week

Havana, Sept 3 (acn) A selection of contemporary prize-winning films
from India, Iran, Russia and Germany will be screened in this capital
from September 6 to 11.

The week of international cinema will open with "Turtles can also fly",
a joint French-Iranian-Iraqi production directed by Bahman Ghobadi and
award-winner at the San Sebastian Festival in 2004.

The program includes "The geishas' secret lives", presented by popular
US actress Susan Sarandon, and "The Russian arc" directed by Alexandr
Sokurov, which has won awards at international festivals held in
Malaga, Toronto and San Francisco.

The film, which offers a tour of the Hermitage Museum in Saint
Petersburg, is considered very innovative since it was the first film
in movie history to be shot in only one take.

The prestigious Indian director Nignht Shyamala will also be presented
at Havana's movie theatres with films such as "The Sixth Sense"
(nominated for 6 Academy Awards) and "Signals" (which made him one of
the top-earning script writers in Hollywood).

The movie theatres in Havana will also be screening, for the next two
weeks, seven Asian films that have already been premiered in Cuba.
