Casa de las Americas Pays Tribute to Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera
Havana, Sept 3 (acn) A three-day event to take place on September
12-14 will open a program of activities organized in this capital by
Casa de las Americas to pay homage to Mexican painters Frida Kahlo and
Diego Rivera.
The colloquium, which commemorates the centenary of Frida and the 50th
anniversary of Rivera's death, will bring together several Mexican and
Cuban researchers, who will discuss the treatment of ethnic groups and
social classes in the work of both painters.
The academics will also speak about Kahlo’s and Rivera's influence on
the avant-garde artistic movements of Latin American and the Caribbean,
as well as their defense of just causes of their time.
The colloquium includes the screening of the film "Frida: Naturaleza
Viva" (Frida: Living Nature) (1983) by Mexican director Paul Leduc and
the staging of the theatrical work "Cintas de seda" (Silk Ribbons) by
Cuban playwright Norge Espinosa.
Likewise, Casa de las Americas will inaugurate an art exhibition in the
Latin American Gallery to close up its program of activities. This will
feature 63 works by 56 members of the Mexican Arts Salon – including
Fanny Rabel, Arturo Estrada and Arturo García Bustos.
Casa de las Americas gives continue to host a number of activities that
have been carried out by several Cuban cultural institutions since July
6 paying respect to Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.
