Two US Unions Back Edwards for President

Washington, Sep 3 (Prensa Latina) Two large US unions, the Miners and
Steel Workers, the latter the largest US union with 850,000 members,
pledged support Monday to Democrat hopeful John Edwards.

Edwards, former senator for North Carolina, is already backed by two
carpenters' unions, and these new additions give him the largest union
support of any of his rivals.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D, NY) is supported by the United
Transportation Union and International Union of Engineers and Airspace
Workers, while the International Firemen Association pledged allegiance
to Sen. Chris Dodd (D, CT).

The polls give the former first lady an edge on second contender Barack
Obama, John Edwards has been running third.
