Allende's Ideas Live on in Chile

Santiago de Chile, Sep 4 (Prensa Latina) On occasion of the 37th
anniversary of the triumph of the government of Popular Unity in Chile,
Communist Party Secretary General Lautaro Carmona noted that Allende's
ideals still live in the political thinking of the peoples.

Chilean political organizations highlighted that, despite Pinochet
rightists' attempts to bury his ideas, the social project of former
President Salvador Allende (1970-1973) inspires workers in their
struggle for better living conditions.

Chilean progressives, like the revolutionary leader, ratify their
anti-imperialist feeling as opposed to the CIA plans to destabilize
democratic processes in countries like Venezuela, Bolivia and Ecuador,
Carmona asserted.

On September 4, 1970, the Popular Unity government led by Allende won
the elections of the country, with 36.4 percent of the votes.

President of the Confederation of Copper Workers, Cristian Cuevas,
recalled that the employees of the sector are fiercely fighting for the
re-nationalization of copper, the country's natural resource that
belonged to the people during Allende's socialist mandate.

The leader of Junto Podemos Mas (Together We Can Do More), Juan Flores,
denounced that 70 percent of Chilean copper is now in the hands of
foreign companies, and he held the current Executive responsible for
allowing transnational corporations to profit with more than 25 billion
dollars this year.

Moreover he decried that while those business people become richer,
necessary resources for medical services and education are denied here.
