Pakistani Ex PM to Talk to President
Islamabad, Sep 5 (Prensa Latina) After making some progress in
negotiations toward sharing power, Pakistani ex Prime Minister Benazir
Bhutto accepted a meeting with President Pervez Musharraf.
Bhutto, who fled to exile in 1998 to avoid corruption charges, said
there needs to be further work in the Dubai meetings between her aides
and Musharraf, and admitted a face-to-face talk will be a tough task.
A possible Bhutto-Musharraf alliance already faces growing unpopularity
among different sectors for it could buy Musharraf buy more time in
power by giving him support from Bhutto's powerful Pakistani People's
Power Party, while the corruption charges against her would be dropped.
Ex Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, from the Muslim League of Pakistan, is
also expected to return next week. Musharraf evicted him from power
with a coup in 1999 and a year later he sought asylum in Saudi Arabia
facing a life sentence.
