Beginning of End of Brits in Iraq
London, Sep 6 (Prensa Latina) The commander in charge of the British
troops' pull-out from Basra Palace, Patrick Sanders, admitted on
Thursday the decision means the beginning of the end of four years of
his country's presence in Iraq.
That war, he said, was unpopular among British nationals, and the
debate on the final withdrawal from the Iraqi territory posed a
potential threat to the soldier's morale.
He also told BBC's radio 4 the British presence in the conflict was
beneficial, and added it gave certain level of confidence to Iraqi
security forces.
Most of the British armed forces commanders favor an immediate
withdrawal of soldiers from Iraq.
