Bolivian Coca Farmers Back Constituent Assembly

Sucre, Bolivia, Sept 7 (Prensa Latina) Some 20,000 coca growers and
farmers from Cochabamba marched to this city on Friday to participate
in a Cultural and Social Summit in defense of the Bolivian Constituent
Assembly on Monday.

According to Julio Salazar, the trip will be funded by the community
and historically marginalized sectors that expect the Constituent
Assembly to conclude its sessions with a draft Constitution by December
14.

Currently suspended for security reasons in Sucre, the Constituent
Assembly is expected to resume its session on Sept. 10, although its
venue might be transferred to another department.

The aboriginal representatives pointed out that they will hold a
permanent vigil in Sucre until then to prevent new violent acts by
Union Juvenil Cruce¤ista, an opposition shock group.

It was confirmed that more than 100 farmers from the southern state of
Tarija would participate in the march.
