Colon Leads Guatemala Vote

Guatemala, Sep 10 (Prensa Latina) The most recent official report in
Guatemala places Unidad Nacional de la Esperanza candidate Alvaro Colom
as leader of the contest, with three points over Otto Perez Molina, of
Partido Patriota party. # Guatemala Needs Electoral Runoff

The data, updated on Monday morning, gave Colon 821,743 votes, or 28.27
percent, while Perez Molina won 706,625 points, which represent 24.31
percent.

The information comes from 89 percent of the electoral tables, thus
they have estimated that the positions will not change and both
contestants will go to a second round on November 4, to elect the
Guatemalan president.

This confirms the trends in the most recent vote intention surveys and
exit polls.

Although the numbers were favoring Roberto Gonzalez, of Gran Alianza
Nacional, Mayor Alvaro Arzu was finally reelected in this capital, with
over 50 percent of the vote.

In recent hours, disturbances were reported in some municipalities,
causing the death of one person, several people wounded, and material
damage.
