Cuba and Zimbabwe Share Excellent Relations

Havana, Sept 10 (acn) Bilateral relations between Cuba and Zimbabwe are
excellent, said Esteban Lazo, Vice-president of the Cuban Council of
State during the welcoming ceremony given in Havana to Joyce Teurai
Ropa Mujuru, Vice-president of the African country.

Lazo stressed the strong historic and blood bonds uniting Cuba to
Africa and he assured that Joyce's visit to the island will further
strengthen bilateral relations.

Cuba's cooperation with Zimbabwe dates back to the times in which that
country struggled for independence, said Lazo who highlighted the
common views defended by both countries at international forums.

The Cuban Vice-president also thanked Zimbabwe for its support of
Cuba's struggle against the US economic blockade and against unfair
accusations of human rights violations.

Since 1961, over 3,400 Zimbabwean youths have studied in Cuba, while a
large Cuban medical brigade is currently offering services in the
African nation, said Lazo.

Meanwhile, Joyce Teurai expressed her thankfulness for the warm welcome
she and her delegation were given in Cuba and announced that the
Zimbabwe-Cuba Joint Intergovernmental Commission, which kicks off next
week here, will review what has been done so far, as well as future
projects to be undertaken.

The welcoming ceremony was also attended by Cuban deputy foreign
minister Eumelio and deputy minister of foreign investment and economic
cooperation Ramon Ripoll.
