Chavez, Morales Agree to Form Four Joint Ventures in Bolivia

By Matthew Walter

Sept. 9 (Bloomberg) -- Venezuela and Bolivia signed agreements today to
form iron mining, petrochemicals, cement and forestry joint-ventures in
Bolivia, as the socialist allies deepen their economic and political
ties.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and Bolivian President Evo Morales
signed letters of intent to begin work on the projects during a meeting
today in Venezuela broadcast by state television.

The countries will form an iron mining company to develop the Mutun
deposit, in Bolivia's Santa Cruz department, which has 42 billion
metric tons of reserves, according to an e-mailed statement sent today
from Venezuela's information ministry.

Morales and Chavez also signed agreements to build a petrochemicals
complex in Cochabamba, Bolivia; to form a jointly owned cement company;
and to develop forestry projects in Bolivia.
