Great Britain Ponders Stay in Iraq

London, Sep 11 (Prensa Latina) Great Britain will determine its
presence in Iraq in according to decisions of its commanders, said a
spokesperson of Prime Minister Gordon Brown on Tuesday, amid
expectations for a withdrawal.

The spokesperson said that conditions in southern Iraq, where 5,500
British troops are currently stationed, are different from those in the
rest of the Arab country.

With those statements, it seems that the British government is
attempting to remain aloof from the decisions of its US ally, or at
least that it does not follow American orders.

Early this month the British military passed the command of Basra
Palace and province to the Iraqi forces and concentrated at the
military base of that region's airport.

According to London media, next month Brown will announce the pullout
of the British forces, but some troops will remain in Iraq for
supervision and training of Iraqis.
