Campaign to Free Cuban Five Intensified
Havana, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) Cuban National People"s Power Assembly
President Ricardo Alarcon summoned people to intensify the campaign for
the liberation of the antiterrorist Cuban Five, imprisoned in the
United States for nine years.
"This battle is to be won by demonstrations and protests in streets,
regardless of the legal process that is being carried out," Alarcon
expressed.
According to Alarcon, the reasons that led Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon
Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez to go
into anti Cuban organizations in southern Florida are currently still
in effect.
The program for their liberation includes several demonstrations of
protest in front of US embassies, lectures in universities, showing of
documentaries and journalistic articles about that judicial process.

Bolivia, Venez, Demand Release of Cuban Five
La Paz, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) Hundreds of members of Bolivian
movements of solidarity with Cuba gathered on Wednesday outside the US
Embassy to demand the release of five anti-terrorist Cuban fighters
held in US prisons since 1998.
The gathering marked the end of a march staged by Cuban residents in
Bolivia, including Bolivians who graduated from Cuban universities as
well as families of youngsters studying on the Island.
Demonstrators denounced the unfair treatment received by The Five
-Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Rene Gonzalez
and Antonio Guerrero- who were given harsh sentences for gathering
information to prevent terrorist attacks against the Island.
The marchers questioned Washington's double standard in its crusade
against terrorism, and demanded the extradition to Venezuela of
international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, who perpetrated sabotage
and crimes against humanity.
They also condemned the Bush Administration refusal of visas to the
wives of Gerardo and Fernando, in another violation of their human
rights.
Meanwhile in Venezuela, members of organizations and Congress demanded
the release of The Five.
During his opening speech as part of the International Campaign for the
Release of the Five, second vice president of the Venezuelan Congress,
Roberto Hernandez, highlighted the importance of joining efforts in
this regard.
For his part, Deputy Victor Chirino, who is vice president of the
Venezuelan Group in the Latin American Legislature, recalled that there
is no such thing as "good terrorism" and reiterated the demand for the
extradition to Venezuela of notorious criminal Luis Posada Carriles.
A message addressed to the Venezuelan people by Rene Gonzalez, one of
The Five, was read at the gathering.

US Actor Danny Glover Speaks Out for Cuban Five
Havana, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) US actor Danny Glover said today that
five Cuban antiterrorists were unjustly imprisoned and sentenced to
unusual and cruel terms for doing their moral obligation to defend
themselves.
A copy of the message obtained by Prensa Latina and sent by Glover to
Howard University, located in Washington D.C. and venue to a solidarity
act with those Cubans in US prisons, said they acted in self defense of
their nation and their families.
They had to act because the United States government, in violation of
its own laws and in contravention of its own calls to prevent and step
out terrorist activities, failed to act, says the message.
Glover adds the US government failed to prevent murderous terrorist
attacks being repeatedly launched from within the US for many decades
against the sovereign nation of Cuba.
Rogue acts of violence against the Cuban people by cold-blooded
terrorists based in the United States and supported by inaction and
irresponsibility of our government, demand the critical intervention by
the American people, says the message.
Glover explains in his message that, across the ideological and
political spectrum, people who honestly stand against terrorism, must
speak out against these terrorist acts that operate outside US and
international law. They must speak out in defense of the Cuban Five.
The famous actor lastly invited all students, professors, executives,
family and friends of Howard University to make a call on the US
government to implement its moral and legal obligations to justice and
international law.
