Ecuador Alianza Pais Leads Vote

Quito, Oct 1 (Prensa Latina) The governing party Alianza Pais has a
wide advantage over the rest of Ecuadorian groups in the preliminary
counting of votes on the Constituent Assembly, which will guarantee it
an absolute majority when the Assembly is set up on October 31.

Unofficial results revealed that after 90.06 percent of Sunday's votes
were counted, Alianza Pais was registering 61.7 percent of the people's
support.

The ruling Alianza Pais is followed by the Sociedad Patriotica with 7.1
percent, Renovador Institucional with 6.7, and Socialcristiano with 4.2.

In the meantime, Red Democratica was holding 2 percent, and other
factions were recording less than 2 percent.

Valid votes totalled 83.7 percent, 9.6 percent were annulled and 6.60
percent of others were blank.
