Bush's Popularity Drops According to AP Survey
Havana, Oct 5 (acn) The popularity of US President George W. Bush and
his Congress hit a record low according to a survey conducted by the
Associated Press.
The results, released on Thursday, show that only 31 percent of those
surveyed approve of Bush's administration, lower than the 32 percent
registered in June.
Among Republicans, only 69 percent support the president, while only
seven percent of democrats and 19 percent who support independent
parties supported the US president.
Approval of Bush's approach to the domestic economy --in the midst of
mortgage and housing crisis-- fell from 37 percent to 34 percent.
Bush's management of the healthcare system and other domestic affairs
also registered a new record low of 31 percent in favor.
The survey was conducted at a time when Bush was about to veto a bill
to increase medical support for children by $35 million US.
Only 29 per cent of the people surveyed support Bush's war on Iraq, a
drop from last month's survey closer to the 27 percent recorded in
December.
Congress obtained only 22 percent of support following a steady decline
since the Democrats took control of both legislative chambers on
January.
