Afghans call for US withdrawal

Afghan people in the eastern province of Kunar have called for
withdrawal of the US and foreign military forces from their country.

People in the Chawkay district staged demonstrations for hours on
Saturday which ended with no violence, deputy police commander Abdul
Sabour Allahyar told IRNA.

He added that the demonstrators called for withdrawal of foreign forces
from a base in Chawkay.

Demonstrators announced that the existence of the military base for
foreign troops near residential units and the resulting missile attack
by the Taliban have killed civilians in the district, the local
official stated.

He noted that 30 Afghan civilians have been killed recently in Chawkay
following missile attacks of Taliban.

Some 3,000 residents of Chawkay attended the demonstration and chanted
slogans against foreign forces and the Afghan government. They blocked
the Kunar-Nangarhar road for a while.

The US military base is in the Afghan province of Kunar.
