Che Monument To be built in El Alto, Bolivia

La Paz, Oct 7 (Prensa Latina) A 23-feet, five-ton monument to
guerrilla fighter Ernesto Che Guevara will be built in the Bolivian
municipality of El Alto to commemorate the 40th anniversary of his
assassination in La Higuera, artist Tupamaru said on Saturday.

The sculptor and muralist told Prensa Latina that he chose
scrap metal to sculpt the face of the guerrilla fighter, because it
represents strength and modesty.

Unlike steel, he explained, scrap metal allows me to introduce
new plastic elements.

The sculpture, he said, shows Che alive with one foot on the
back of an eagle, which represents imperialism. He carries his rifle in
one hand and a pigeon, which represents peace, in the other one.

According to Tupamaru, his work resulted from a social
commitment by Bolivian artists to the life and work of the mythical
guerrilla fighter and revolutionary, with whom we can now say "until
victory forever," he added.

The sculpture will be erected at the future Liberation Square,
in El Alto, in November, he said.
