Mikhail Fradkov named chief of Russian Foreign Intelligence

Moscow, Oct 7 (Prensa Latina) Former Prime Minister Mikhail
Fradkov assumed today his new post as chief of the Russian Foreign
Intelligence Service, named by president Vladimir Putin.

Fradkov substitutes Serguei Lebedev in that post, whose
nomination to president of the Executive Committee of the Community of
Independent States (CIS) was approved at the meeting recently held in
Dushambe, Tadzhikistan with the leaders of the member countries.

The former cabinet chief presented his resignation on
September 12 arguing there were important political events coming up in
the country and desired to give the Kremlin Executive complete freedom
to decide.

He deemed correct the initiative to leave his post in order
not to hinder the virtual reorganization of power in view to the
upcoming parliamentary elections on December 2.

The Russian leader also announced that Grigory Rapota,
recently released from his post as executive secretary of the EuroAsian
Economic Community (EEC), will be new presidential envoy to the South
Russia Federal District.

Rapota worked well and efficiently and we have obtained
positive results in the EEC which are mostly due to his efforts, added
Putin, quoted by news agency RIA Novosti.

The EEC is formed by Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kirguiztan, Russia
and Tadzhikistan. Armenia, Moldova and Ukraine have observer status.

Former executive secretary Rapota will occupy the post of
recently designated minister of Regional Development of the Russian
Federation, Dmitry Kozak, in the restructured cabinet after Fradkov´s
resignation.
