Every once in a while, there comes a perfect political statement, and
this letter (below) is one of those.

To the Editor:

Roger Cohen engages in excessive parsing when he tries to distinguish
"neocons" from "liberal interventionists."

He seems to be asserting that liberal interventionists are good because
they advocate use of American force for humanitarian purposes while
neocons are bad because they advocate use of force to expand the
American empire.

The two groups are indistinguishable.

Both subscribe to the jingoistic notion that the United States can
unilaterally use its military power to intervene in the affairs of
foreign states without authorization from the world community.
International law prohibits the use of force against a sovereign state
except in self-defense or when authorized by the United Nations
Security Council.

The United States should reject both the neocon dream of world
domination and the liberal interventionist philosophy of bombing for
humanity. We must rejoin the world community.
