In Santa Clara, Cubans Pay Tribute to Che Guevara

Havana, Oct 8 (acn) The people of the Cuban central province of Villa
Clara, on behalf of the island's people and headed by Cuban first vice
President Raul Castro, paid homage to legendary guerrilla fighter
Ernesto Che Guevara in occasion of the 40th anniversary of his
assassination in Bolivia.

"The validity of the economic and political strategy of Ernesto Guevara
is manifested in Cuba as the society's driving force of development
across the country," said Commander of the Revolution Ramiro Valdez
Menendez at the end of the ceremony.

Valdez also reviewed the 10-year period since Che Guevara's remains
arrived in Cuba to today. He stressed the resistance of the Cuban
people which has kept on offering humanitarian aid and cooperation in
different fields to numerous countries despite the reinforcement US
aggressive policy over the last few years.

During the activity, 210 children who begin elementary school this
course received their blue bandanna and committed themselves to follow
Che Guevara's example.

President of the juvenile organization, Miriam Yanet Martin Gonzalez,
said the Cuban children are taught Che Guevara's ideals which will give
them the opportunity to approach that model of man that Ernesto Che
Guevara represents.

Cuban first vice president Raul Castro, members of the Political Bureau
of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party Jose Ramon
Machado Ventura and Abel Prieto, and several government officials laid
a wrath on the monument to Che Guevara in the city of Santa Clara.

The ceremony was also attended by members of the Council of State, and
