Chileans Hear of Che's Optimism

Santiago de Chile, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) Che Guevara died as he lived,
full of optimism, declared Harry Villegas (Pombo) who recalled his
comrade-in-arms from the Sierra Maestra struggle in Cuba and
international missions until his death in Bolivia.

Pombo, who fought with Che in Bolivia, told local daily El Siglo that
even on October 8, 1967 "there was not one moment in which Che lost
control, enthusiasm and confidence in victory."

On October 8 - the day he was captured by the Bolivian Army - he was
thinking of the possibility of success and analyzing how to get out of
the area (La Higuera) to continue fighting in another part of Bolivia,
he affirmed.

The internationalist fighter said the heroic guerrilla, hero of so many
battles, never talked to his men of death since he conceived it as
something hypothetical. "We only have two choices in war, to win or to
lose," noted Pombo.
