Argentina: Justice Workers on Strike
Buenos Aires, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) The Argentinean Judicial
Federation (FJA) begins a 24-hour strike in demand of better salary and
job.
"It is unacceptable that a judge of a provincial court earns 30 times
less than an employee," declared FJA president Jorge Izquierdo who
demanded to fix all the members of this sector's salaries to the one
received by the members of the Supreme Court of Justice.
The lawyers also demanded to have judgeship Councils operating in the
country in which political representatives cannot have the possibility
of adopting decisions and with members representing the neighbours.
Izquierdo criticized budget distribution in which the legislative body
receives more than the law when this last service is present in the
entire national territory.
The trade union leader added that his organization is trying to create
a service that will respond to citizens without any economic and
political dependency.
Protest organizations reported that delegations from several provinces
(Mendoza, Neuquen, Chubut, Buenos Aires, Corrientes and Cordoba) will
march this Friday to the headquarters of the Justice Ministry where
they were last August 17's strike.
The FJA gathers all the districts law unions except Santa Fe, Tierra
del Fuego and the National and Federal courts.
