Brazil Increases Solidarity With Cuba
Havana, Oct 12 (acn) A new Brazil-Cuba Friendship Centre was opened in
the northwestern city of Natal, under the sponsorship of Jose Marti
Cultural Association in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte.
In their first bulletin, the Brazilian activists explained the civil
and non-profit making nature of their organization whose main goal is
strengthening the bonds of friendship existing between Cuba and Brazil,
and defending the interests of the peoples around the world, especially
in Latin America.
The Brazilian organization also paid homage to legendary guerrilla
fighter Che Guevara on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his
assassination in Bolivia and promoted the international campaign
carried out around the globe to demand the freedom for the five
antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in US prisons for over 9 years.
Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez
and Ramon Labanino were detained in 1998 for trying to prevent
terrorist actions organized by right-wing anti-Cuba organizations based
in Florida. They were charged with espionage and punished with
extremely harsh sentences for crimes they never committed.
