Cuba's Pilot Election Successful

Havana, 15 oct (AIN) President of the National Electoral Commission, 
Maria Esther Reus, classified as positive the pilot election carried 
out in Cuba on Sunday to guarantee a successful process of election of 
delegates to the Popular Power's Municipal Assemblies on October 21.

The Cuban official also noted that the test was undertaken by 21,641 
electoral colleges in the Cuban western and central provinces, which 
represent 53.7% of the 37,749 electoral colleges throughout the country.

Reus pointed out that the main problems were the interruptions of the 
phone lines, which has already been solved thanks to the use of an 
alternative phone system that will guarantee the information's 
transmission during the electoral process.

The 16,108 electoral colleges from the Cuban eastern provinces, which 
could not participate in the testing of the island's electoral 
apparatus due to the bad weather conditions affecting that territory 
over the last few days, will carry out their pilot election on October 
18.
