Ron Paul gains ground in polls and coffers after debate
By Karyn Chenoweth
CNN reported that Dr. Paul was shocked by the growing groundswell of
supporters - not some "lunatic fringe" as many GOP pundits write off in
their commentaries - but a diverse group of people who are demanding
real change.
It is insulting that Americans who buck the two-party politcal machine
and think for themselves be labeled as such, in Dr. Paul's supporter's
eyes.
CNN's popular host Lou Dobbs is quietly listening too.
Independent party affiliate Dobbs recently had CNN's Jack Cafferty on
his show, and read a quote from Cafferty’s book which reads, “I have
never been scared before, but I am scared now. Scared that we're losing
our way, not because somebody is taking it away, because -- but because
we're giving it away."
When Dobbs asked Cafferty this poignant question, “You think the 2008
election could change it?” Cafferty’s answer was, “No.” He even asked
if he was excited about any candidate out there including all eighteen
candidates and his answer was again, no. Yet, both men have been
complimentary towards Paul in their respective CNN shows and segments.
Paul supporters are becoming more critical of mass media not supporting
equal air time for Dr. Paul compared to Romney or Giuliani.
American voters, Paul supporters argue, are deserving of a chance to be
presented polar opposite positions and that is what democracy should be
embracing, not the notion that the press merely decides what is and
what is not worth reporting.
Why is it that Dr. Paul consistently gets the greatest applause? Why is
it that he wins every online poll? Why is it that he out gains even
top-tier candidates such as McCain?
Those are the stories Paul supporters are demanding be covered.
CNN reported that during the recent Republican CNBC debate in Dearborn
Michigan one of the most heated moments came when the question was
asked whether the president needed to go to congress before going to
war.
Some of the candidates referred to going to congress if they had the
‘luxury’ but Mitt Romney’s answer fell short when he said that he’d
“consult with attorneys” on whether he should go to congress.
This drew an animated response from Ron Paul. Paul told Romney to “open
up the constitution and read it.” Paul said that “we absolutely need a
Declaration of War from Congress” He continued, “If there is an
imminent attack, no” and then said “this is just war propaganda and a
road to disaster”.
Paul’s answer was met with great applause.
Paul who voted against the Iraq war said, the “war is a mistake, we’re
going broke with huge deficits, it’s costing a trillion dollars to
maintain empire”.
Romney’s performance as a candidate was fine on other issues but his
answer and Paul’s response on the issue of war powers was a difficult
blow to withstand.
Dr. Paul is the only anti-war candidate running in the GOP, reported
CNN.
His supporters continue to make the case that he stands the best shot
at defeating Hillary Clinton in the general election because she voted
for the war and Ron Paul did not.
