"New Climate" - Iraqi Vice President Extols Talks in Turkey

Ankara, Oct 17 (Prensa Latina) Iraqi Vice President Tareq al Hashemi
said here on Wednesday that a "new climate" is prevailing regarding
diplomatic efforts to solve the conflict between Turkey and the Kurds
stationed in North Iraq, according to Anatolia news agency.

The article says that Hashemi believes to have persuaded Turkey to find
a wise way-out to the conflict.

The Iraqi vice president met with Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Recep
Erdogan on Tuesday to discuss the issue related to the Kurdistan
Workers Party (PKK).

Hashimi arrived in this European country in a work visit after the Turk
government presented a motion to launch a large-scale border offensive
against PKK separatists in Iraq.

The Turk Parliament is discussing that initiative today and it seems
that it will pass it due to its majority from the ruling party.

On Turk television, Erdogan said the parliament's approval to launch
the offensive against Kurdish in Iraq does not necessarily mean an
imminent military incursion.
