Polls Predict Big Election Win for Argentina's First Lady
Buenos Aires, Oct 22 (Prensa Latina) The presidential candidate of the
Argentine government, Senator Cristina Fernandez, will win the October
28 elections in the first round, according to eight of ten polls.
The polls give the first lady an advantage of 21-32 percent over Elisa
Carrio, the main candidate of the Social Christian faction.
Former Economy Minister Roberto Lavagna, runner for UNA (Una Nacion
Avanzada), is third, with an intention of votes between 10.6 and 16.5
percent, according to surveys.
The Argentinean electoral law establishes that to be able to win in
first round, it is necessary to obtain 45 or 40 percent of votes, but
with a 10 percent advantage over the second place.
In the meantime, Management Fit polling firm revealed abstentions may
well reach 17.3 percent, but experts agree the votes of those still
undecided could also favour the first lady.
