Hu Jintao Re-elected Head of Chinese Communist Party

Havana, Oct 22 (acn) President Hu Jintao was reelected Monday for 
another five-year term as Secretary General of the Communist Party of 
China (CPC), reported the People’s Daily online edition.

During the closing of the CPC’s 17th National Congress, Jintao called 
on party activists to carry the banner of socialism with its special 
Chinese characteristics.

"History will prove that the major policy decisions and arrangements 
the congress made and its important achievement are of vital strategic 
significance and will play an extremely important guiding role in 
comprehensively advancing the great cause of socialism with Chinese 
characteristics and the great new undertaking to build the Party," said 
Hu Jintao.

On the final day of the Congress, 2,235 delegates representing 73 
million party activists elected a new Central Committee and Central 
Commission for Discipline Inspection and approved amendments to the 
party statutes.

The Central Committee will have 204 full members and 167 alternate 
members. The Disciplinary Commission is made up by 127 members.

The nine-member Politburo Standing Committee elected includes current 
members Hu Jintao, Wy Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinlin and Li Changchun, 
as well as four new members: Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and 
Zhou Yongkang.
