Colombian Official Says Relations with Cuba Based on Respect

Havana, Oct 22 (acn) Colombian foreign minister, Fernando Araujo, said
relations with Cuba are developing in a climate of respect, fraternity
and cooperation.

During a ceremony in honor to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti at the
Revolution Square Memorial, Araujo said this visit to Cuba is aimed at
strengthening the bonds between the two nations.

He emphasized that even though the two countries have different social
models, both governments are engaged in joint projects for mutual
cooperation.

Araujo mentioned the Cuba-Venezuela-led eye treatment project, known as
Operation Miracle. He noted that more than 700 Colombians have
recovered their vision thanks to the program.

Likewise, 42,000 people from the South American country have learned
how to read and write after the implementation of the Cuban literacy
method Yo Si Puedo (Yes I can).

In addition, nearly 60 Cubans are also collaborating in areas such as
construction, culture, sports and the sugar industry.

The Colombian Foreign Minister is expected to meet his Cuban
counterpart Felipe Perez Roque Monday afternoon. They will confer on
the state of bilateral relations and discuss topics of interest
concerning national, regional and international events.
