US Blockade of Cuba, an Attack on the Declaration of Human Rights

Havana, Oct 30 (acn) UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food Jean 
Ziegler, who is visiting Cuba, said that the US economic blockade of 
Cuba is attack on international order and on the Declaration of Human 
Rights.

Ziegler said he expected that the international community condemns 
Washington's policy on Cuba at the General Assembly on Tuesday, and he 
described the US unilateral measures as a violation of international 
law and Cuba?s national sovereignty.

During a visit to the Havana-based Social Workers School, the UN 
official said that "the US blockade is a unilateral and arrogant action 
on the part of the US administration."

During his tour of the educational center, Ziegler learned about the 
participation of Cuban youths in different ongoing food programs, 
including the assistance being offered children with nutritional 
problems. Over 71, 000 children with nutritional problems are currently 
receiving a free supplementary food basket.

Making use of great creativity, Cuba has been able to deal with food 
limitations and the suffering caused by the US economic blockade, said 
the UN Special Rapporteur, who is paying a visit to the island at the 
invitation of the Cuban government.
