AIDS Cases Grow in Panama Jails

Panama, Nov 4 (Prensa Latina) An investigation made by the three
Panamanian Jails revealed a high incidence of Acquired Immune
Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), spread a research of the Pan-American
Health Organization on Sunday.

The poll researched 5532 prisoners and produced an average of infection
of 1.3 percent.

In La Joyita prison, one of the biggest of the country, the average
detected was of 2 percent, according to the report of the PHO
representative Diego Postigo Otero.

The official gave the result in a recent seminar where he analyzed how
those people infected with HIV-AIDS are treated at the penitentiary
centers and hospitals, reported La Prensa on Sunday.

The survey used 108 prisoners from La Joya jail as sample, 110 from La
Joyita and 95 from the Women Rehabilitation Center.
