VP Carlos Lage Heads Cuban Delegation to Ibero-American Summit
Havana, Nov 7 (acn) Cuban Vice President Carlos Lage travelled to
Chile, heading his country's delegation to the 17th Ibero-American
Summit, which will run from Thursday through Saturday in the Chilean
capital.
Ibero-American summits work as a forum for comprehensive political
dialog among Latin American countries, Spain and Portugal. On this
occasion participants will focus on social cohesion and policies aimed
at achieving more inclusive societies in Ibero-America.
Social cohesion, as the major issue of the Ibero-American Summit, is
linked to social problems facing Latin American nations, said Cuban
deputy foreign minister Abelardo Moreno in Santiago de Chile.
Moreno, who is also Cuba's coordinator for the meeting, said there are
prevailing necessities to meet in the nations of the region,
particularly in the fields of health care, education, employment and
social security, among others.
The Cuban deputy foreign minister said that following the preparation
of the agenda by a meeting of experts, the foreign ministers from all
participating countries will hold discussions on Thursday at the
Ibero-American City, a locality in the outskirts of the capital
Santiago de Chile, where the heads of state and government will also
carry out their dialog on Friday and Saturday.
