Solidarity with Cuban Five Conference Underway in Canada

Havana, Nov 9 (acn) Organizations and individuals from Canada, the 
United States and Cuba will come together Friday and Saturday in 
Toronto for the conference Breaking the Silence in  solidarity with the 
five Cuban antiterrorist fighters held in US jails.

The aim of the event is to discuss strategies to obtain freedom for the 
Cuban Five who have been held in US prisons since 1998.  Antonio 
Guerrero, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene 
Gonzalez -internationally known as the Cuban Five- were gathering 
information on terrorist groups based in Florida that have conducted 
criminal actions against the Cuban people for nearly 50 years 
encouraged by successive US administrations.

Several US legal experts linked to the case have been invited, 
including defense team member Leonard Weinglass who represents Antonio 
Guerrero.

Elizabeth Palmeiro, wife of Cuban Five member Ramon Labanino, and 
Silvia Garcia, a Cuban parliament official are among the Cuban 
participants at the Toronto gathering.
