Latin American Student Congress Starts in Ecuador
Havana, Nov 12 (acn) The 15th Latin American and Caribbean Student
Congress opened Monday and will run until Saturday in Quito, Ecuador,
with the participation of representatives from Latin America, North
America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania.
During the Congress, sponsored by the Latin American and Caribbean
Continental Students Organization (OCLAE), the delegates will demand
the freedom of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly held in
US prisons for over nine years.
The Cuban and Venezuelan delegation will also demand the extradition of
international terrorist Luis Posada Carriles, who walks freely in Miami
under the protection of Bush administration, and will highlight the
benefits of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA) regional
integration project.
The meeting, which this year is dedicated to legendary
Cuban-Argentinean guerrilla fighter Ernesto Che Guevara, also aims to
reinforce cohesion among the student movement in the region, reports PL
news agency.
Founded in 1996, the OCLAE is presided over by Cuba's University
Student Federation and brings together 38 organizations in the area.
