Havana, Nov 12 (acn) Kyoto's University of Foreign Studies granted

professor during his recent visit to Japan.

Dr. Castro Diaz-Balart is the advisor to the Council of State for
nuclear policy. He traveled to Japan at the invitation of the academic
institution to attend the international symposium: "Latin America:
Possibilities and Challenges."

In a press conference at the Cuban embassy in Japan, Dr. Castro
Diaz-Balart gave details of Cuba's energy policy, which aims at

energy saving, says a PL report.

Likewise, he told the press about the scientific development of his
country, which he considered as steady, in spite of the U.S economic
blockade against the island. He noted that the most important
achievements are the result of government-led educational programs
oriented to raise the people's awareness of the need achieve a
sustainable management of natural resources.

When asked for his opinion about the future management of natural
resources in Latin America, the Cuban advisor said it was very
important to make reasonable use of the resources in order to preserve
the biodiversity and the environment.

He also pointed out the importance of increasing the educational level
of the people in the region and of making a better distribution of
resources.
