Bolivia's Morales Blasts Senators for Stalling 97 National Projects
La Paz, Nov 12 (Prensa Latina) Bolivian President Evo Morales
questioned the Senate opposition that, as majority, are blocking 97
national project bills.
In his message from Palacio Quemado (government house), Morales said
the House already approved many of those projects stranded in the
Senate in a clear maneuver to affect national development.
The statesman said 27 laws on cultural heritage wait for senatorial
approval, plus three on mining, nine on labor and ten on water and
hazards, plus a pension for the elderly.
The president also accused the opposition of delaying the iron and
steel megaproject, El Mutun, which the government signed in July with
Jindal Steel of India to produce iron in eastern Bolivia.
The Senate approved it but conservative parties like Poder Democratico
Social proposed amendments that force new House debates.
The Senate questions the mechanism to appoint the new company's
leadership, economic distribution and utility shares per region.
Morales said some senators (ex cabinet ministers) subordinate national
interests to those of anti-government parties but warned that they will
affect the people, not him or the cabinet.
