Luis Miranda, Cuba Solidaridist and Founder of Casa de las Americas,
Dies in New York

This morning, November 13, 2007, at 11:30 AM Comrade Luis Miranda
passed away. For five decades Luis was a central voice and key
organizer for the liberation of Cuba from the grip of the US-backed
Batista dictatorship and then in New York City in defense of the Cuban
Revolution.

Luis organized meetings in New York City for July 26th
Movement leader Fidel Castro in the 1950s and founded Casa de las
Americas as a center for support for the victorious revolution. Luis's
activities led to numerous terrorist attacks directed at stopping his
work and shutting him up but he continued his invaluable and crucial
work.

Luis was an inspiration to generations of young people who were
attracted to the liberating ideas of the Cuban Revolution. He was
always there to share with us his knowledge, experience, and his
courage. Luis was a fighter and a passionate friend of all the
struggles of oppressed and exploited peoples. We will miss him and will
forever cherish his example and celebrate his life!

Luis Miranda, Presente!

On Friday, November 15, 2007 friends and comrades of Luis will gather
at the Redden Funeral Home on 14th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues at
2-5 PM and again at 7-9 PM.

CSNY will inform our lists of plans to celebrate the life of Luis
Miranda and honor his contribution to the revolutionary struggle.
