Palestinians Protest Annapolis Meeting
Gaza, Nov 27 (Prensa Latina) Thousands of Palestinians took to the
streets of Gaza on Tuesday to reject the international conference on
the Middle East beginning in the US city of Annapolis.
Hundreds of demonstrators marched from the Islamic University to the
seat of the Palestinian Legislative Council chanting slogans against
the meeting, the negotiators of which have not been able to reach any
joint agreement.
Prior to the march, former Prime Minister Ismail Haniye stressed in a
speech, broadcast on television, that Palestinian resistance would not
yield to US-Israeli pressure, whatever the result of the meeting might
be.
"The conference in Annapolis will be fruitless," said Haniye.
Also today, in the West Bank city of Ramallah, another group of about
200 people carrying Palestinian flags tried to meet in central
Al-Manara Square to protest the Annapolis meeting and Israeli
occupation, but they were repelled by local police, according to
witnesses.
Yesterday leaders of the Palestinian resistance: Islamic Jihad, the
Popular Resistance Committee, the Popular Front for Palestinian
Liberation and the Islamic Resistance Movement - Hamas, held a
counter-conference to make their rejection stance known before the
summit.
