Plot against Venezuela Disclosed

Caracas, Nov 28 (Prensa Latina) As most Venezuelans get ready to vote
in a referendum on a constitutional reform, elements of an opposition
plot against national calm are disclosed.

"A great operation of psychological warfare is underway," President
Hugo Chavez warned when commenting that CNN in Spanish broadcast a
photo of him with a label underneath that read "Who killed him?", which
was on air for several seconds on Tuesday.

Just a few hours before, local media released a document from the
Central Intelligence Agency on an alleged "plier plot" to cause the
country's ungovernability leading to military intervention.

The document complements other denunciations made this week, according
to which Chavez was in a sniper's sight during a rally and a TV viewer
warned about the laser on the Venezuelan president during a live
broadcast.

Significantly, the image of the Venezuelan president with a caption on
his death was broadcast on a split screen shared by a picture of
Colombian President Alvaro Uribe.

The coincidence takes place amid a strong dispute between the two heads
of State that froze bilateral relations, after Uribe abruptly suspended
Chavez's mediation in the humanitarian talks in Colombia.

Analysts insist that Washington is pressuring the Colombian president,
but the "plier plot" also refers to a country that would support
military actions against Venezuela.

Although the CIA document does not identify the country, US lawyer Eva
Golinger revealed that US and Colombian military forces have been
reinforced on the Venezuelan border.

Chavez said the CNN incident was aimed at instigating his
assassination, and warned the people against actions to cause anxiety
and distress among the citizens, so he urged them to be calm and have
"nerves of steel."

According to him, the CNN broadcasting, Television Española's
manipulation of an alleged attack on the Andres Bello Catholic
University and Uribe's decision are not isolated or chance events.

Add to those elements that the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference has
manipulated the constitutional reform by saying that it is aimed at
terminating religious freedom.

Pro-Reform Venezuelans Close Ranks

Caracas, Nov 27 (Prensa Latina) Defenders of the constitutional reform
project in Venezuela are closing ranks on the final stage of the
electoral campaign Tuesday, aimed at its approval during the December 2
referendum.

Organizations in favor of the proposed constitutional changes multiply
their actions countrywide, so the population is well informed on the
content of the reform.

In addition, legislators, political leaders, and businessmen supporting
President Hugo Chavez" proposal are also distributing materials with
information on the changes to 69 constitutional articles and 15
temporary regulations.

According to the electoral power, the result of the consultation will
express the people"s will, while authorities once again warned of
opposition attempts to cause destabilization by stirring up violence.

Such violent incidents were reported in the states of Carabobo and
Aragua, where anti-reform activists tried to block roads and were
responsible for the death of a worker from PETROCASA enterprise.

In the meantime, Venezuelan authorities today denounced the
participation of some priests in actions inciting violence, and asked
the national catholic hierarchy to condemn that stance.

Communication and Information Minister William Lara told Venevision TV
channel that yesterday, some churches in Carabobo used their sermons to
provoke disturbances.
