Cuba and North Korea Strengthen Economic Ties

Havana, Nov 27 (acn) Cuba and the Democratic Republic of Korea 
reaffirmed in Havana on Monday their interest in maximizing bilateral 
cooperation and exchange in the sectors of biotechnology, culture, 
education, agriculture, health and energy.

Cuba's intentions of increasing the existing bilateral socioeconomic 
relations with North Korea were expressed by the island's Minister of 
Government, Ricardo Cabrisas, during the inauguration of the 26th 
Bilateral Commission of Economic, Scientific and Technical Consultation 
in the Cuban capital.

The Cuban official noted that, in spite of the almost-fifty-year-old US 
economic, trade and financial blockade of the island, the Caribbean 
market offers a lot of opportunities.

For his part, Trade Minister Rim Kyong Man, who heads the visiting 
delegation, expressed the interest of his people in promoting common 
economic ties and in taking them to the same level of the excellent 
political relations that exist between the two countries.

Cuba cooperates with North Korea in fields such as poultry and bovine 
genetics, farming protection, biotechnology, saving and rational use of 
energy and training of technicians.

The bilateral accords include the North Korean supply of railroad spare 
parts, working clothes and chemical products.

Cuba and the Democratic Republic of Korea established diplomatic 
relations in 1960.
