Conference on European Studies Underway in Cuba
Havana, Nov 27 (acn) The 14th International Conference on European
Studies opened Tuesday in this capital with the participation of
scholars from 14 countries who will discuss on the complex economic,
political and social situation in Europe.
During the first day of sessions, the main topics of debate will
include Russia and the post-soviet period, Russia and its new role in
international relations, and political and social processes in Europe.
The four-day meeting will also take in other issues related to the
European Union (EU) and global security, the EU's relations with other
nations around the world and its international cooperation.
The meeting is been attended by representatives from Germany, Austria,
Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Spain, France, Greece, Hungary, Mexico, the
Czech Republic, Russia, Venezuela and Cuba.
The event is been sponsored by the Center for European Studies (CES),
an autonomous scientific entity founded on October 4, 1974, as a
non-governmental organization. It has a special consultative status at
the United Nation's Economic and Social Commission since November 1996.
The CES aims to promote research into the sociopolitical and economic
situation in Europe and the relations of that continent with other
regions around the world. Its staff is made up of a group of
prestigious researchers who carry out studies in the fields of history,
political sociology, international relations and economy.
The 14th International Conference on European Studies marks the peak of
the scientific activities promoted by the CES, the first institution of
its type in Latin America.
