Pope's Error on Global Warming: like condemnation of Galileo, Copernicus

The Pope condemned what he calls "the climate change prophets of doom."

The Pope's Error on Global Warming is like the condemnation of Galileo
and Copernicus when they proved that the earth and the other planets
went around the sun.

This latest big mistake by the leader of the Roman Catholic Church is
more serious than it looks at first sight. It is the final nail in the
coffin of the policy of reason and rationality in interpreting the
world for the Roman Catholic Church (RCC). They have now firmly
reverted to mysticism.

They reject Science except where it serves their reactionary agenda.
They reject true Democracy with full Human Rights and Equality for
Women and the mass of ordinary people. They reject Liberty and
Modernity, Ecology and true Social Justice.

They say they want peace, human rights, social justice and development
but in practice what they do and say and teach lends support to war,
inequality, NeoColonialism, NeoLiberalism, Racism, Sexism,
NeoConservatism and environmental destruction.
 
Lacing his remarks on Global Warming with weasel words about ecology,
future generations and development, Ben-Edict has finally shown the
depths of his profound reactionary ignorance by challenging the
rigerous science of thousands of climatologists and declared the
dangers of climate change from global warming caused by human beings to
be over-hyped.

We have heard all this sort of thing before, about birth control, the
right of ordinary people to vote, women's rights, the validity of
exorcisms, witch burnings, etc. etc. ad nauseum for the last 2000
years. You can always guarentee that they will get it wrong or at least
until something "new" has been around for 500 years or so.

This latest utterance from the fossilised mind of Ben-Edict is a part of
worrying trend. First the RCC started to backslide about Natural
Selection in Evolution. Then they started to claim that condoms spread
HIV viruses and now they are flying in the face of the mass of
scientific evidence which proves that human beings dumping CO2 into the
atmosphere is causing most of the global warming. One begins to wonder
if Ben-Edict does indeed have the beginnings of Alzheimer's or if he
was brought here by some sort of anti-miraculous time warp from the
high middle ages.

We will just have to wait and see who is right won't we.

As a matter of interest the US Navy have just discovered that most of
the artic ice may disappear a lost faster than even the UN and IPCC's
worst fears (possibly in less than 10 years).

For the RCC this is a rerun of the "defiance of science" when in the
16th C they ignored the clear and objective evidence of  the planetary
motions and the Sun centered solar system. 

Even when the heliocentric theory was proved mathematically and despite
the fact that the idea had been around since the ancient Greeks and had
been upheld by Indian and Muslim scholars, this was not enough for the
RCC who clung desperately to their ignorance to the bitter end, blindly
silencing, torturing and burning those who offered the truth. Galileo
and Copernicus must be sniggering up their sleeves.

But it is not so funny. Such reactionary and stupidly opinionated error
has real consequences for human life because some people will be
persuaded to remain sceptical about the man made causes of global
warming, whereas in reality we must act now to prevent a great deal of
destruction and suffering.

In the past the church would threaten, excommunicate, torture or even
burn those who dissented from the official superstitions. Now though
the risk is that they have allied themselves with the corporate global
warming denialists who know the truth but prefer more profits now than
invest in climate stability for the longer term. This is not just
dangerous and destructive and potentially genocidal on a planetary
scale, it is nihilistic and omnicidal. The Church has a lust for
disaters and suffering derived from it's bizare teachings about the
fate of the world.

Truly the RCC is becoming more like the most scary fundamentalists who
want to world to slide into disaster to hasten the mythical end times.
As to the prophets of doom the RCC are the oldest and biggest sinners
in this area. Still teaching that the Earth will be destroyed by fire
before the second coming.

The Earth won't be "destroyed" by Global Warming but I guess that
unless we act soon the heat from it could destroy many of the life
support systems we enjoy now, reduce human life to a severe struggle
for existance in many places and wipe out many other valuable species.

I guess that Ben-Edict thinks that when the last tree is burnt Jesus
will come back and take us all to sugar candy mountain.

I suggest we rename Ben-Edict thus...

"POPE BEN-EDICT CRISTUS TERMINUS DEMENTIA.
THE SCOURGE OF SCIENCE and CHAMPION OF SUPERSTITION.
HOLY HERALD OF A NEW DARK AGE".
