Several people have asked why I don't write essays more and more
fully. Aside from the obvious of passing on so many views and wondeful
writers is more important, I have a personal reason. My lifelong
passion and devotion has been music. Last Saturday, the LA Times put
a nicely headlined notice about the Ash Grove's 50th Anniversary
coming up April 18-20 at UCLA, in Royce and, over the weekend,
lots of free shows and workshops in and around Schoenberg.

That's the club I founded and ran, and I'm producing this monster,
with lots of help from many others, but it really is my baby and I'm
devoting most waking hours to that labor of love. I was going to wait
until after the holidays to send particulars, but the Times jumped the
gun, a most welcome development. I will, indeed, send you the full
schedule, shortly, but will say that the Royce concerts on April 18 and
19 are rapidly selling. You can go to UCLALive for tickets and info at
http://www.uclalive.org/event.asp?Event_ID=490 or the Ash Grove
website http://www.ashgrovemusic.com for the more up to date program.
We pass on stuff to UCLA - but no tickets. -Ed]

Bill Moyers talks about media and the events of the week with MSNBC's
popular and provocative Keith Olbermann.

What's on Keith Olbermann's mind about the media? This week, as Rupert
Murdoch takes over The Wall Street Journal and as the FCC is about to
allow more newspapers to expand into the broadcast business, Bill
Moyers Journal continues its reporting on media consolidation and gets
insight from MSNBC's popular and provocative Keith Olbermann. The
broadcast includes a report on the debate around relaxing ownership
rules and looks at the real-world implications of increasing
cross-ownership of newspapers and broadcast outlets in the same
markets. Also on the program, Dr. Ron Walters, director of the African
American Leadership Center at the University of Maryland, on how race
is playing out in the campaign.
